THE HUNTS POINT RE-ENVISIONING PROJECT

This comprehensive planning, organizing, and revitalization initiative is aimed at enhancing economic vitality, quality of life and opportunities for open space creation and environmentally–sound development in Hunts Point.

Advocacy, Planning & Policy
THE POINT uses the lens of environmental justice, youth development and arts and culture to engage individuals from Hunts Point in the effort to create a more livable community and generate economic opportunity.  THE POINT is a key player in several advocacy coalitions and initiatives such as the South Bronx Greenway, the Campaign to Decommission the Sheridan Expressway, the Hunts Point Monitoring and Control Committee, the Barretto Bay Conservancy and South Bronx Waterfront Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA).

Hunts Point Riverside Campus for Arts and the Environment
THE POINT has completed the remediation process at the former Leiman family fur factory site located at 1399 Lafayette Avenue.  The Campus is the first stop on the South Bronx Greenway and is adjacent to the Hunts Point Riverside Park.  The goal of the site is to enhance the community's access to the Bronx River while creating new opportunities for the arts and environment to connect beyond the reach of THE POINT's door.

South Bronx Community Green Roof (COMING SOON!)
The NYC Council (thanks to Councilwoman Carmen Arroyo) and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation has officially awarded THE POINT support for its Green Roof!  With this assistance, THE POINT plans to install an extensive green roof and a smaller intensive green roof that will serve as an outdoor classroom at its main facility at 940 Garrison Avenue.

José E. Serrano Environmental Discovery Center (live stream)
THE POINT's rooftop features a weather station that enables Youth Development Program participants to assess the outside environment through temperature and barometric readings and view the South Bronx through a weather camera.
