Open Hydrant Youth (OHY) program builds on our mission by sharing the principles of ensemble collaboration with the youth of the community ages 14-18. JR seres serve ages 8-13. OHY productions and programs are specifically geared to teachers, young adults, and families. We present professional productions of non-traditional, interactive interpretation of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as other literary classics and work by new playwrights. Making theatre a family experience is a priority with OHY. This division of Open Hydrant meets every Saturday @ The Point from 12-5 by offering various types of classes that include, acting, voice, dance and speech. We will also have additional rehearsals specific to each production. There is no fee to participate. If you are interested in auditioning, please contact us @ firstname.lastname@example.org
Open Hydrant Theater Company @ The Point’s mission is to maintain an ensemble-based, Equity theater company in the densely populated, yet under-served, community of the South Bronx. Our purpose is to produce yearly seasons of creative works based largely on, but not limited to, non-traditional, interactive interpretations of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as other classics and work by new playwrights. Making theater a family experience is the priority. We are committed to empowering a diverse group of creative artists, especially the youth, whose work is designed to educate, entertain and help revitalize urban communities. We want to be the bridge to the next phase of a professional career. Our most recent ensemble members collaborative work includes Shakespeare High Executive Produced by Trigger Street (The Social Network) and From the Bronx To Yale Produced by The Guardian.
THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH JR follows the exceptional tale of Milo, Tock, and a certain magic tollbooth is brought splendidly to life on stage in The Phantom Tollbooth TYA. Adapted from Norton Juster’s beloved children’s book, this inventive musical features a melodious score by Arnold Black and witty lyrics full of wordplay by Pulitzer Prize and three-time-Tony-winner, Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me).
Even surrounded by dozens of toys, Milo is bored. Nothing interests him at all. The Phantom Tollbooth comes to the rescue! Transported to the Land of Wisdom, Milo is thrust into adventure when told Princesses Rhyme and Reason need rescuing to bring peace between two kings. They are divided over which is more important: words or numbers. Knee-deep in danger, language, and math along the way, Milo learns everything has a purpose. Upon his return home, he realizes there is never a reason to be bored in a world full of so many things to discover. @ email@example.com
