Open Hydrant Youth (OHY) program builds on our mission by sharing the principles of ensemble collaboration with the youth of the community ages 10-18. OHY productions and programs are specifically geared to teachers, young adults and families. We present professional productions of non-traditional, interactive interpretation of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as other literary classics and work by new playwrights. Making theatre a family experience is a priority with OHY. This division of Open Hydrant meets every Saturday @ The Point from 12-5 by offering various types of classes that include, acting, voice, dance and speech. We will also have additional rehearsals specific to each production. There is no fee to participate. If you are interested in auditioning, please contact us @ info@openhydrant.org

Open Hydrant Theater Company @ The Point’s mission is to maintain an ensemble-based, Equity theater company in the densely populated, yet under-served, community of the South Bronx. Our purpose is to produce yearly seasons of creative works based largely on, but not limited to, non-traditional, interactive interpretations of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as other classics and work by new playwrights. Making theater a family experience is the priority. We are committed to empowering a diverse group of creative artists, especially the youth, whose work is designed to educate, entertain and help revitalize urban communities. We want to be the bridge to the next phase of a professional career. Our most recent ensemble members collaborative work includes Shakespeare High Executive Produced by Kevin Spacey and From Bronx To Yale Produced by The Guardian.

IN THE HEIGHTS tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New Yorks Washington Heights neighborhood  a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. Its a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. IN THE HEIGHTS is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.
