What inspired me to do photography was looking at pictures taken by other people and I wanted to see if I could do that too. The subject matter I am drawn to as a photographer are people, landscapes and animals. Photography enhances my understanding of my environment by bringing out the beauty of it
Something that I really like to take pictures of is my family. I can make them go in poses and do cool stuff. I like to use props in my photos. I really like photography. It is something that I can use to express myself and it is my favorite thing to do since I started this class. I really like photography because it’s just...fun, I can do it when I am sad, and it just was a great experience for me. It was really nice to see other people’s work too. This is what photography means to me.
My family inspires me to do photography because I like to take pictures based off of them and moments that I spend with them are important to me. The type of photography I am drawn to is taking photos of people because there are different types of people and what’s unique about them. I would like to show that family is important and you should spend time with them as much as you can. Photography enhances my understanding of my community because other families might not be doing what my family does everday and it gives you time to appreciate it.
Keeping memories is what inspires me to do photography. There isn't a particular subject that I am drawn to, I like all of them. I want to convey a feeling of comfort with myphotographs. I like the fact that anything can be photographed and shared around the world.
The story that these photos have is one about family. This is about the family that you live with but also the family that is created in a community. I want to capture a moment in time and hold it in my hands. These are the kinds of things that inspire me to create images. Photography helps me make sense of the world in a time where things are uncertain. Sometimes it feels like the world is ending, so when I go to take photos it reminds me that the world has been here for billions of years and it will still be here tomorrow.
In my images, I am trying to show the meaning of family and happiness to me. I was influenced to make these images by my family and friends. I was also very inspired by our guest artist Destiny Mata who photographed people in her community on the Lower East Side. This class has helped me find a new hobby in the arts and overall is a good way to express myself and my imagination.
My photographs are a collection of portraits of my family, myself and my everyday life. What I like about photography is that I can take pictures of anything and use my imagination with it. I also like editing my pictures. My aunt encourages me to pursue photography but my parents influence the sense of humor in my photographs. We have nicknames for everything. We play board games, have singing contests, make tiktok videos and do other fun things as a family. They also encourage my imagination and this class helped me express my ideas easier.
When I go outside or on a drive with my family, I love to look around at the things going on around me. I think that everything has a meaning such as graffiti on a wall or just some people playing a game outside. That’s what got me into photography. When I’m outside taking photos, I’m drawn to taking pictures of plant and animal life but I especially like taking photos of my neighborhood. I always want to show a story when I work with my photos because I feel like a story is more interestting than looking at a dot on the wall and saying it means something. Photography feels like a fun way for me to look at the people around me and think about what they’ve done in their lives and how they are living in the present day.
Photography has been a main way of expressing and conveying my emotions during this pandemic. I have been doing photography for a while and seeing all of these beautiful photos and portraits of how people's lives have changed has made me a better photographer. For this class, I tried to take pictures that represented what my life looks like so that you may get to know me better. My favorite form of photography is portraits so in my selection, you will see many portraits of me and some of my family members. I know that this pandemic has affected everyone in this world, and photography has helped me escape reality and express myself in all this chaos. I truly hope that you enjoy this presentation and thank you for coming.
My mother inspires me to do photography. She put me in this program. I like taking pictures of toys because it’s fun and makes me calm. I want to show people my enjoyment through my photographs. Sharing my pictures with people helps me show them the things I love. I enjoy learning how to capture different moments and poses.
These images are images from the home I live in. I just found stuff in my house and took pictures of everyday objects that I think looked cool. What I like about photography are the ideas that I think of and seeing those ideas expressed in the pictures that I take. For example, the picture of the water is actually a toilet while it’s being flushed. I saw that the water looked beautiful and had the idea to take a picture of it. Without this class I would have been bored, but seeing the presentations of other photographer’s and their photos gave me inspiration to look around my house and find cool things to take pictures of.
What I like about photography is that you can send messages with images. It brings people together and allows social media to ascend. With my images, I’m trying to show what I was doing during quarantine, and on how it affected me. You will see a lot of self-portraits of me with other objects. It’s like seeing the visions of others.
What Influenced me was just trying to do something different for a while. I was playing sports over the summer, a lot, so I wanted a break from that. I also participated for my friends and family.
This class helped me express my ideas because I like the vibe the classroom gives me. It makes me feel safe. It makes me feel like an artist. It makes me feel the visions of others. This is why photography is critical to me.
My name is Dylan Loomis, this is my first ICP at THE POINT online class.
My first set of images are self portraits. I played with lighting, lighting half my face, making myself a silhouette, and shining a light to create a shadow of myself on the wall. I also played with point of view in my mirror portrait. What I was trying to do was play with strange situations and intense conditions using lighting and the environment to create tension.
I also created a series about pollution. With these images I am telling a story of pollution from seeing pollution on the ground to picking it up and showing compost as a solution. After composting a lot of this garbage turns back into soil we can use.
Being in a photography class has helped with getting my ideas out and creating situations to tell stories with my art.
My photography project is mainly about my life at home during the pandemic. My pictures are self portraits, art from artists around the world that decorate my home and a drawing that I made. What I’m trying to show is my daily life and how I pass the day. What I like about photography is that you get to capture a single moment in time and you have it forever.
These pictures where all imagined in my mind about what I wanted to do and I made it happen. In my drawing I was thinking about global warming and what animals are suffering and feeling during these times.
This class has helped me express my ideas by teaching me new things that I could use in the future. Things that might be considered impossible. In this class I have been able to learn more about art and photography. Now it is something I am passionate about and want to do everyday.
